Job Description

As a Circuit Board Designer with over 15 years of experience, you will lead the design, development, and optimization of complex printed circuit boards (PCBs) for various applications. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including hardware engineers, mechanical engineers, and manufacturing teams, to ensure that designs meet technical specifications, industry standards, and quality requirements. Your extensive experience will also be leveraged to mentor junior designers, solve complex design challenges, and implement best practices in PCB design.

Key Responsibilities:

1. PCB Design and Development:

  • Lead the design and development of complex multilayer PCB layouts from concept through production.
  • Use industry-standard PCB design software (e.g., Altium Designer, Mentor Graphics, OrCAD, etc.) to create detailed board layouts, schematics, and Gerber files.
  • Optimize designs for electrical performance, manufacturability (DFM), and testability (DFT).
  • Implement high-speed signal routing, power integrity, and thermal management techniques.

2. Collaboration and Communication:

  • Collaborate with hardware engineers to define PCB requirements and design constraints.
  • Interface with mechanical engineers to ensure proper fit and integration with product enclosures.
  • Work closely with manufacturing teams to address fabrication, assembly, and quality control issues.

3. Mentoring and Leadership:

  • Mentor and provide guidance to junior PCB designers and engineers.
  • Review and approve design work performed by less experienced team members.
  • Drive design reviews and ensure adherence to design standards and practices.

4. Standards and Compliance:

  • Ensure PCB designs comply with industry standards (IPC, UL, CE, etc.) and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain knowledge of new technologies, materials, and design techniques in the PCB industry.

5. Continuous Improvement:

  • Implement and promote design optimization techniques to reduce cost, improve performance, and shorten development time.
  • Participate in research and development of new tools and methodologies for PCB design.

6. Problem Solving:

  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex PCB design issues, including signal integrity, power integrity, and EMI/EMC concerns.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • 15+ years of professional experience in PCB design and layout, with a strong portfolio of successful projects.
  • Expertise in industry-standard PCB design tools (e.g., Altium Designer, Mentor Graphics, OrCAD).
  • In-depth understanding of PCB manufacturing processes, materials, and DFM/DFT principles.
  • Experience with high-speed digital and analog circuit designs, RF PCB design, and power electronics.
  • Strong knowledge of signal integrity, power integrity, and thermal management techniques.
  • Familiarity with industry standards such as IPC, UL, CE, and RoHS.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven ability to mentor and lead design teams.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with rigid-flex, flex, and HDI (high-density interconnect) PCB designs.
  • Proficiency in 3D modeling software for PCB-mechanical integration.
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies and version control systems for design files.
