Job Summary:

The Inventory Cost Accounting Manager will direct, coordinate, and manage the daily operations of inventory control and cost accounting functions, with a focus on inventory management, cost analysis, and process improvement. This role is responsible for performing detailed analysis of inventory and financial data, developing and maintaining effective cost accounting systems, and ensuring compliance with inventory policies and procedures. Must have a thorough understanding of cost and general accounting principles, inventory management, and financial analysis.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Inventory Management: Direct, coordinate, and manage the operations within the Inventory Department. This includes periodically monitoring compliance of FIFO inventory patterns and reviewing team deliverables. Establish procedures for physical inventory counts, receiving, transferring, and repacking inventory to maintain accuracy and accountability.
  • Inventory Costing & Analysis: Ensure timely and accurate costing of manufactured and non-manufactured products, in accordance with GAAP. This includes preparing and reviewing a variety of analyses to determine the appropriate cost of raw material and finished goods inventory. Complete inventory reporting to support monthly, quarterly, and annual deliverables as well as the annual audit.
  • Ad hoc: Research and manage special inventory projects, ensuring alignment with company policies and industry best practices. Take ownership of the inventory and cost accounting system implementation, fully understanding its intricacies and integration with other systems. Lead the continuous improvement of processes while motivating the team to think creatively and embrace innovative solutions.
  • Team Leadership: Provide leadership, mentoring, and guidance to team members. Facilitate training as needed. Develop tools and guidelines to enhance their productivity and support department-wide initiatives.
  • Internal control: Develop and maintain robust inventory systems, policies, and procedures, ensuring full compliance with internal controls and industry standards.
  • Cross Department Collaboration: Work closely with production, logistics, procurement, and finance to ensure inventory-related compliance and communication. Serve as a strategic partner to address inquiries and enhance processes.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Proficient in cost accounting and general accounting principles, month-end close processes, reconciliations, and journal entries.
  • Ability to analyze data to determine deviations form norm and resolve inventory discrepancies.
  • Must have ability to make conversions among various units of measure to arrive at correct weight and cost calculations.
  • Skilled in motivating and mentoring team members to achieve high performance.
  • Must be detail oriented and possess a high degree of accuracy.
  • Proven ability to demonstrate critical thinking skills, independent reasoning, analytical skills and judgment.
  • Intermediate-level skills in Excel, including data analysis and use of advanced formulas.
  • Strong ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain focus on key tasks.
  • Quickly absorbs new information and skills, particularly with new systems or processes.
  • Excellent ability to communicate and collaborate effectively across departments with the ability to interact with various management levels.
  • Maintains a positive attitude and is a team player.
