Job Description

A client of Insight Global is seeking a detail-oriented and organized Budget Staff Accountant to join their finance team. This is a permanent, full-time position with a hybrid work schedule (remote with 1-2 days in office a week) from 8am to 4:30pm.

This position focuses on the reporting side of accounting rather than the transaction side of accounting. The ideal candidate will assist with preparing, managing and monitoring the budgeting processes while possessing analytical skills and a foundational understanding of accounting principles.

Key Responsibilities:

Budget Planning & Preparation:

• Collaborate with department heads & project managers to prepare and manage annual budgets.
• Maintain and monitor detailed budget reports, forecasts, and projections.
• Review and analyze spending patterns, identify cost-saving opportunities, and recommend adjustments as necessary.

Financial Analysis & Reporting:

• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual budget variance reports, identifying discrepancies and providing explanations for variances.
• Monitor actual expenditures against budgeted amounts, highlighting areas of concern.

Cost Control & Monitoring:

• Track and analyze operational costs to ensure adherence to the approved budget.
• Review financial data to ensure that spending aligns with the department’s budget constraints and provide support in adjusting forecasts as needed.

Compliance & Documentation:

• Ensure compliance with financial regulations, policies, and internal controls regarding budgeting processes.
• Maintain detailed records and documentation of all budgeting activities and decisions for auditing purposes.

Collaboration & Support:

• Work closely with other departments to understand budget needs.
• Assist in the development of financial strategies to improve budget efficiency.

Perform any other appropriate functions as needed.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
• 2-5 years of experience in a financial/accounting related position.
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, lookups, etc.)
• Experience with accounting software (knowledge of ERP systems).
• Analytical mindset with the ability to identify trends and variances.
• Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in financial reporting.
• Strong communication interpersonal skills, organizational and time management skills, with the ability to handle multiple priorities effectively.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Plusses/Nice to Haves:

• Experience with PeopleSoft Financial software
• Experience with Prophix Financial software
• Knowledge of forecasting and/or financial modeling

Compensation: $72,000 to $80,000 per year annual salary.
