Job Title: Mid-Senior Level Patent Litigation Associate Attorney
Job Overview:
A respected law firm based in Chicago, IL is seeking a strategic, detail-oriented Patent Litigation Associate to join its growing intellectual property litigation team. This opportunity is ideal for an attorney with substantial experience navigating complex patent disputes across a variety of technical fields, particularly electrical engineering or computer science. The role involves active participation in high-impact cases, from early strategy through post-trial appeal, and offers significant opportunities for hands-on leadership in sophisticated litigation matters.
Duties:
Take lead responsibility for case preparation from inception through trial and appeal stages
Draft pleadings, dispositive motions, memoranda, and correspondence for state and federal court proceedings
Manage complex discovery processes, including drafting and responding to requests and overseeing e-discovery workflows
Conduct and defend depositions; prepare fact and expert witnesses
Handle Markman hearings and claim construction strategies
Prepare invalidity and infringement contentions, as well as claim charts and related analysis
Participate in inter partes reviews and related proceedings before the USPTO
Contribute to the development of overarching litigation strategies with minimal supervision
Supervise, mentor, and train junior attorneys and litigation support teams
Prepare for and participate in Federal Circuit appeals
Requirements:
4-8 years of focused patent litigation experience
Demonstrated ability to manage complex IP matters and collaborate effectively with internal and external teams
Familiarity with claim construction proceedings, patent-specific discovery, and trial strategy
Prior experience with inter partes review (IPR) proceedings
Background in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field is highly desirable
USPTO registration or substantial experience litigating technical matters is strongly preferred
Education:
Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited U.S. law school
Certifications:
Active license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction
Admission to practice before the USPTO is preferred
Skills:
