Job Description

We're currently seeking a Director of Quality & EHS position for a leading manufacturer of components/parts for multiple industries in Des Plaines, IL. As a Director of Quality & EHS, you will play a vital role in overseeing QMS, leading EHS programs, supervising inspections and testing, leading the quality/EHS team, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Base Salary - $150k to $180k + Bonus

Job Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in - business, operations, quality system, or engineering
• 10+ years of experience working in a Manager or Director of Quality position.
• At least 5 years of experience being a Director.
• 5+ years of experience in leadership- managing a team of managers.
• ISO 9001 experience.
• Experience with auditing.
• QMS experience.
• Experience with CI projects, problem solving, corrective actions, preventative solutions- very quality-focused activities.
• Able to work functionally across three locations that are close together & travel to those sites. Also, get two days work from home per week!

Responsibilities:

• 4 direct reports.
• 3 quality managers in different locations.
• 1 EHS coordinator who travels between sites.

Day-to-day responsibilities:

1.-Oversee Quality Management System (QMS)]

• Maintain and improve QMS aligned with ISO 9001 or other applicable standards.
• Ensure consistent quality of castings, machined parts, coatings, and assemblies.
• Lead audits of incoming raw materials (like brass, zinc, stainless steel).

2.-Lead EHS Programs

• Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and local environmental regulations, especially around:

3. Supervise Inspections & Testing

• Oversee in-process and final inspection protocols
• Review SPC data, PPAPs, and first article inspections.

4. Coordinate Safety Procedures

• Conduct daily or weekly Gemba walks on the shop floor to spot safety risks.
• Ensure proper usage of PPE around machinery.
• Respond to any incidents, perform root cause analysis, and roll out corrective actions.

5. Lead and Mentor Teams

• Supervise a team of quality inspectors, EHS coordinators, and document control staff.
• Schedule training for new hires on quality procedures and safety awareness.
• Implement team KPIs (scrap rate, incident rate, audit scores).

6. Continuous Improvement & Lean Initiatives

• Identify quality issues like high scrap rates, porosity, or surface defects.
• Use Lean tools (5S, Kaizen, Root Cause Analysis) to improve processes and reduce waste.
• Partner with engineering on DFMEA/PFMEA for new faucet or metal part launches.

7. Regulatory & Customer Interface

• Manage customer audits and certifications (e.g., NSF, ANSI, or customer-specific specs).
• Address customer complaints with 8D or CAPA reports.

8. Documentation & Reporting

• Ensure SOPs, work instructions, MSDS sheets, and inspection records are up to date.
• Prepare monthly reports on quality metrics (PPM, first pass yield) and EHS stats (TRIR, near misses).
• Lead management review meetings.
