Job Title: Patent Associate

Location: Nashville, TN

Pay Range: $100,000 – $125,000 Annually

Employment Type: Full-Time

Position Overview:

Client’s Nashville office is seeking a talented and motivated Patent Associate Attorney to join our expanding Intellectual Property practice group. This is an excellent opportunity for a professional with a background in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science to grow within a dynamic, collaborative, and client-focused legal environment.

Experience Level:

• Up to 4 years of experience in patent law
• USPTO registration strongly preferred

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist with U.S. and international patent prosecution matters
• Draft patent applications and respond to USPTO office actions
• Review invention disclosures and conduct detailed discussions with inventors to understand technical innovations
• Collaborate with third-party vendors to prepare formal drawings and figures for patent filings
• Conduct patentability searches and literature reviews to assess the novelty and scope of inventions
• Draft patentability opinions and written assessments for clients
• Manage patent application dockets, including IDS, inventor declarations, ADS, and assignments
• Prepare persuasive office action responses and appellate briefs for USPTO submissions
• Support intellectual property due diligence in M&A transactions

Qualifications:

• J.D. from an accredited law school
• Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science
• Registered to practice before the USPTO (preferred, not required)
• Must be licensed to practice in Tennessee , or eligible to obtain licensure promptly
• Strong academic record and demonstrated excellence in legal writing and analysis
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Self-driven, detail-oriented, collaborative, and passionate about patent law and innovation
