Job Description

Position summary:

As an Assistant Professor in the CDL program at Kilgore College this position will be responsible for delivering comprehensive instruction to students seeking Commercial Driver's Licenses. This position plays a crucial role in preparing students for successful careers in the transportation and logistics industry.

Position responsibilities:

  • Conduct classroom lectures and practical demonstrations on CDL regulations, safety protocols,and driving techniques as defined by the FMCSA.
  • Develop and implement lesson plans that adhere to state CDL requirements and industrystandards.
  • Provide hands-on training and supervision during vehicle operation to ensure students learnproper driving skills.
  • Assess student progress through tests, evaluations, and observations, providing constructivefeedback for improvement.
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance, performance, and completion of requiredtraining hours.
  • Collaborate with other instructors and administrative staff to enhance curriculum and programeffectiveness.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, regulations, and advancements in CDL training to incorporate i nto teaching practices.
  • Must be willing to obtain all endorsements available on a commercial license.
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Position Requirements:

  • CDL Class A or B license with a clean driving record.
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional driving experience, preferably in commercial transportation.
  • Proven experience in teaching, training, or mentoring individuals in a classroom or instructionalsetting.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to effectively interact with diverse groups of students, bilingual a plus.
  • Strong understanding of CDL regulations, safety practices, and industry standards as defined by CFR 49 and the FMCSA.
  • Certification as a CDL Instructor a plus.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office and classroom environment.
  • No or very limited physical effort required; however, the employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30pounds.
  • No or very limited exposure to physical risk.

Provide resources for safe operation of units. Create and support workplace safety.

  • Compensation for this 12-month position is based on years of teaching at institutionsof higher education and/or years in the professional industry and highest level of education. Base pay for 5 years ofexperience begins at $58,323for an Associatesdegree, and increases based on degree and years of experience. Overload and summer classes are paid separately.

Kilgore College does not participate in the federal Social Security program.

All full-time positions are located in Kilgore, TX. No fully work from home positions are available at this time. All employees must be available to physically present to work on the Kilgore, TX or Longview, TX Campus. Some Part-Time and Adjunct positions may be offsite but the candidate MUST live in the State of Texas.

Positions will remain open until filled. Some Adjunct and Part-Time teaching positions may remain open perpetually as the need for part time instructors fluctuates with student enrollment. Teaching positions will be required to submit official transcripts upon an offer of employment. An offer of employment will be contingent upon passing a background check.
